HORDLE PLAYGROUND REFURBISHMENT

ASHLEY LANE, HORDLE

The Parish Council thanks all who gave thier views on the various schemes at the Village Fair in September.

Councillors are now in the process of selecting items of equipment in keeping with the majority of the publics view, that the equipment has a

contemporary Theme.

VILLAGE DESIGN STATEMENT (VDS)

Hordle Parish - Tiptoe- Hordle - Everton

In the September edition of the Hordle Community News we explained what a VDS is intended to achieve and promised to give the whole community an opportunity to contribute to the first Draft document. We are making good progress and at the stage where input from a wide cross section would be very welcome. We had a "Drop In" at the Hordle Fete and many people took the opportunity to fill in a questionnaire which has helped the VDS Steering Group to gauge public opinion and document individual views on development and planning decisions within the Parish. We also asked people to describe, in a few words, the character of the local area. This was most enlightening and has helped us to formulate a broader statement to be included in the VDS.

We want everyone in the Parish to feel that they have been given a chance to have their say on this important topic!

If you want to have influence you need to speak up!

If you want to ask any questions or pass on your views about the way forward for planners and developers, or say how you would like to see Hordle Parish looking in ten years time, please contact :-

Malcolm Warne Holland malcolm@mwhassociates.com or Cllr Ken R Wells ken.meg@tiscali.co.uk

Written questions or comments may be delivered to the Parish Council Office, Vaggs Lane, Hordle, LYMINGTON SO41 0FP addressed to the VDS STEERING GROUP or handed in between 10-12noon Mon-Thurs excluding Bank Holidays).

You might like to consider what is good about living in Hordle Parish and what is not so good. Is the kind of development you have witnessed in keeping with existing styles and materials? Is there room for further building and if so what kind of building should it be i.e. Low density, high density, affordable, exclusive, single storey, flats, detached, terraced, brick, stone, rendered ? Can the infrastructure (schools, shops, roads etc) support further development? What are the features which make living in the Hordle Parish desirable and what are the things which might threaten the quality of life? If you could choose one amenity which would improve the lives of the largest number of people in the Parish, what would it be?

A number of people who completed questionnaires at the Fete indicated that they would be willing to become more involved with the process of producing a VDS. Unfortunately only one person identified himself! If you were one of those people, please let us know by emailing one of the above addresses.

A VDS is about influencing the nature of change, not preventing it.

We can’t stop development entirely but we would hope to present the community’s views on how it should be managed !

Please get in touch!

                                            Hordle Gardening Club

The second half of the gardening year got off to a flying start with our summer BBQ in August. As in recent years, the weather was kind to us for most of the evening and the rain arrived just at the right time to dampen down the hot charcoal. The good food and friendly companyensured that the event was much enjoyed by all members present.

Our September and October speakers presented talks on widely differing subjects -- `The Bayeaux Tapestry` and `Some Unusual Perennials` and both entertained those present with their knowledge and enthusiasm.

The final event of another busy and successful year for the Club is our`Christmas Buffet Supper` to be held at the WI Hall on Saturday 27 November. The supper, organised and prepared by the Club Committee, will be followed by a light-hearted gardening related quiz and other fun items.

Plans for next year’s programme of speakers and events are well advanced and these will be introduced to the members at the Club AGMwhich will be held at the WI Hall on Friday 21 January 2011 at 7.30pm.

Annual membership runs from January each year and costs just £6.

The Club has around sixty members and we would welcome anyone interested in joining us for the coming year and beyond.

All meetings are held at the WI Hall, Ashley Lane, Hordle on the 4th Friday of the month at 7.30pm (except where stated in the Programme of Events)

Visitors welcome £3.00 per meeting.Contact :- Tel :- 01425 622375 or 01425 610171
