The snow was lovely and enjoyed by many. Some icy roads and paths caused some problems and these have been addressed by the Highways Department of Hampshire County Council with grit bins installed in various location across the parish. These bins are provided for appropriate use by the community, to grit roads and public paths as and when required. If bins are found to be damaged or empty please let the parish office know and we will report them to Highways. Pot holes - due to the bad weather and heavy road use in some parts of the parish pots holes have been a problem. Where identified these have been reported immediately to the highways department for their attention. Please continue to report problems either directly to highway or through the parish office. Parish council facilities; The Sports Pavilion, recreation grounds, pathways and public open spaces remained open and in use during the winter period. Maintenance and clearance being carried out by our hard working handyman (Paul) with contributions in partnership with the community payback scheme through the probation service. The parish council provide and maintain a wide range of facilities that are all open to private and club hire. Running costs are increasing and the best way to keep and maintain our facilities is for them to be in use. Fees are low with the tennis courts for hire at just £3 and the Pavilion Hall for £19 per session. Please contact the Parish Office for more details. WAR MEMORIAL OPEN SPACE The work at the war memorial site is well underway. A new fence to the southern boundary has been erected. Clearance of the very overgrown planting to the rear of the site and replanting of the hedgerow took place in the autumn with a new dog/litter bin being installed early in January. The remaining works; to level off the site, provide hard standing and renew the knee high rail fence is to be undertaken and completed by April 2011. HORDLE PLAY PARK & OPEN SPACE REDEVELOPMENT The public consultation on this project clearly outlined the wish for a contemporary play structure and this information was passed to our design team at the New Forest District Council. Along with associated open space enhancement and pathway resurfacing the designs have been drawn up and sent out to tender. If the tender is acceptable it is hoped to start the work at the end of March with completion by the end of April / mid May. PARISH SEATS A new bench is in place along the cycleway/triangle between Everton Road and Stopples Lane.
DITCHES & TREEWORKS The parish council is continually undertaking repairs and maintenance to our ditches and trees. It is very important that ditches that border roadsides are well maintained to ensure the free flow of highways water to prevent flooding and that trees and hedges are kept trimmed to allow ease of use by pedestrian and traffic. It is the responsibility of householders and land owners to maintain ditches and vegetation adjacent to the Highway and keep them free of obstructions. The Parish Council continues to work with the New Forest District Council , New Forest National Park Authority and Hampshire County Council on issues concerning highways/traffic and planning.
HORDLE PARISH COUNCIL ANNOUNCEMENT: IMPORTANT FOR ALL RESIDENTS Re: New Forest District (outside the National Park) Sites and Development Management Development Plan Document – Public Consultation Document The above consultation paper by NFDC was released on 28th January and finishes on 11th March. The Public Consultation Document sets out the Council’s current thinking about what should be included in the Document, but at this stage no decisions have been made about what should be included in the final plan. The consultation document generally sets out the Council’s preferred way forward, and in some cases it sets out alternative approaches. The purpose of this consultation is to seek views on the document so that the responses can inform future decisions about what should be in the Plan. In Hordle and Everton, a total of four sites have been identified for possible development of up to 10 dwellings on land currently in the greenbelt. In accordance with the requirements of the Core Strategy, 70% of the build must be affordable homes. Only one site from each village is required and if approved development would be likely to take place over a ten year period. The sites proposed are as follows:- HOR 1: Land to the rear of 153-169 Everton Road. HOR 2: Land at Hordle Lane Nursery.* HOR 3: Land at Everton Road Nursery. EVT1: Land adjoining Knightcrest Park Homes site * Note: At this site the proposal suggests there is potential for including space for 10 full size allotment plots to meet a wider community need.
Also included in the document are proposals to confirm the Green Infrastructure and Open Space together with Transport Proposals. The Parish Council strongly recommends that all interested residents make themselves aware of the proposals and comment accordingly. The proposals may be viewed in detail via the NFDC Web-site, www.newforest.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=10281A hard copy is also available to view at the Parish Council Office.
HORDLE GARDENING CLUB The Annual General Meeting of The Gardening Club was held at The Hordle Pavilion on 21st January 2011 with more than thirty members attending on a cold and frosty winter evening. Our Chairman was pleased to welcome three new members to the club. After another eventful and enjoyable year the club is thriving, with an effective team of officers and committee members all of whom were re-elected for the coming year. After the formal business of the AGM, the evening continued with a series of light- hearted quizzes kindly prepared and presented by Susan and David Fleetwood. A full programme of events and visits has been planned for the coming season and the club will continue to meet at The W I hall on the fourth Friday of each month. We will be welcoming seven expert presenters during the year to enlighten us on various topics as diverse as `A Calendar of Hampshire Wildlife` to `Shakespeare`s Fantastic Garlands`. Plans are in hand for possible visits to Athelhampton House near Dorchester, The Living Rainforest near Newbury and Passford House, Lymington. Additional activities under consideration include a repeat of a Skittles evening, which has proved very popular over the last two years, the annual barbeque in August and more Sunday Walks with a pub lunch. The annual club `closed show` in July gives all members the opportunity to exhibit their garden and greenhouse produce and the Schedule is likely to be expanded this year to encourage entries from the kitchens of Hordle! Annual membership runs from January each year and costs just £6. The Club has around sixty members and we would welcome anyone interested in joining us for the coming year and beyond. |
