The Parish Council

THE Parish Council consists of 11 Councillors, 10 of whom are elected by all of the electorate in the Parish except for that part of Everton, South of the A337, which is in the Milford Ward of New Forest District Council, where one Councillor is elected to serve and represent them. Elections take place every 4 years, the next Elections  take place in May 2015, but if once again the number of persons nominated is equal to the number of vacancies no Election will be necessary, if not enough persons are nominated to fill the vacancies the Members of the Council will fill the vacancies by co-option.

At the first Meeting of the Parish Council in May (the Annual Meeting) the Chairman & Vice chairman of the Council for the ensuing year are elected by the Members of the Council.

The Council meet twice monthly, usually, on the first and third Mondays of each month  to conduct the business of the Council with any committees and working parties that have been set up reporting to full council.

The Administration of the Council is undertaken by the Parish Clerk (Susan Whitcher) who is also the Council’s Financial Officer, she is also responsible for supervising the work of the 2 other employee’s of the Council - The Minute Secretary/Clerical Assistant (Sandy Smith) and the Handyman/Playground Inspector (Paul Dennis) and also any Contractors employed by the Council.

The Council Committees prepare their Budget which is ratified by the Council by December each year and the District Council informed of the amount of money required to be raised through the Community charge, at the Meeting of the Council on 20th December 2010 it was agreed that for the Year 2011/2012 the  Precept should remain at £96,588.

The District Council pays the precept to the Parish Council by 2 instalments the first in April and the second in September.
