News Release – Hordle Allotment Association Formed

In 2009 there was an open meeting in Hordle to discuss the need for allotments in the parish area. At the time there was no known available land to meet the needs of those interested. The meeting culminated in the formation of a Working Group who would look into land in the area that might be able to provide allotments to the parishioners. After a year of hard work the Working Group informed the Parish Council of their findings and asked for help in taking this work forward. Four parish Councillors agreed to setup a ‘council working group’ with some of the Working Party to look into establishing and running allotments. Following this and on the offer of some land the Working Group called a meeting to establish an Association to formally take forward the views of those interested in allotments in Hordle.

This Association was formed on the 9th February 2010 and was established as the Hordle Allotment Association. Matthew Wright was nominated as Chair, David Corbett as Treasurer and Susan Williamson as Secretary. The newly formed Association will take forward the work that the Working Party started and will now try to agree a lease for some land in Hordle. This land should start to meet the need for allotments in the parish, but the Association will have a longer term goal to meet the allotment needs of the present and future parishioners.
