VILLAGE DESIGN STATEMENT (VDS)

Tiptoe-Hordle-Everton

The VDS Working Party is busy preparing the final draft of this important document and it will be ready for scrutiny as soon as we

reach agreement with the local authorities in the area. At this time the official consultation period will be announced; it is the intention

of the VDS Working Party to make the document available online.

You will be able to complete an online questionnaire offering your views about the quality, content and relevance of the document.

Every contribution returned will be considered and discussed with the possibility that changes may be made to the document if there is

widespread agreement. By the time the document is put out for public consultation it will have received the approval of Hordle

Parish Council, New Forest District Council and the National Park Authority.

Since we announced the start of the process of compiling the VDS, at the Hordle Fete last September, we have collected many

questionnaires and listened to views from a large number of residents across the three villages. We have spoken to selected

groups and shared three open days with the Open Spaces Working Party. We have, through this magazine, invited views and questions

from residents. The response has been uneven, with proportionately fewer people in Hordle contributing than in Everton and Tiptoe. It is not too late to have your say by requesting a basic questionnaire. If you email malcolm@mwhassociates.com within the next week

leaving your address, you will receive a questionnaire and it will be collected from you on completion.

We would like to thank all those who have contributed to the process and we hope you will be pleased with the result. Please watch out for announcements on the Parish notice boards and in the press for the information you need to access the Village Design Statement final draft online.

Updated 8th May 2011

In the September edition of the Hordle Community News we explained what a VDS is intended to achieve and promised to give the whole community an opportunity to contribute to the first Draft document. We are making good progress and at the stage where input from a wide cross section would be very welcome.

We had a "Drop In" at the Hordle Fete and many people took the opportunity to fill in a questionnaire which has helped the VDS Steering Group to gauge public opinion and document individual views on development and planning decisions within the Parish. We also asked people to describe, in a few words, the character of the local area. This was most enlightening and has helped us to formulate a broader statement to be included in the VDS.

We want everyone in the Parish to feel that they have been given a chance to have their say on this important topic!

If you want to have influence you need to speak up!

If you want to ask any questions or pass on your views about the way forward for planners and developers, or say how you would like to see Hordle Parish looking in ten years time, please contact :-

Written questions or comments may be delivered to the Parish Council Office, Vaggs Lane, Hordle, LYMINGTON SO41 0FP addressed to the VDS STEERING GROUP or handed in between 10-12noon Mon-Thurs excluding Bank Holidays).

You might like to consider what is good about living in Hordle Parish and what is not so good. Is the kind of development you have witnessed in keeping with existing styles and materials? Is there room for further building and if so what kind of building should it be i.e. Low density, high density, affordable, exclusive, single storey, flats, detached, terraced, brick, stone, rendered ?

Can the infrastructure (schools, shops, roads etc) support further development? What are the features which make living in the Hordle Parish desirable and what are the things which might threaten the quality of life? If you could choose one amenity which would improve the lives of the largest number of people in the Parish, what would it be?

A number of people who completed questionnaires at the Fete indicated that they would be willing to become more involved with the process of producing a VDS. Unfortunately only one person identified himself! If you were one of those people, please let us know by emailing one of the above addresses.

A VDS is about influencing the nature of change, not preventing it. We can’t stop development entirely but we would hope to present the community’s views on how it should be managed !

Please get in touch!
